Limbeck
Interview
The
hip and cool Patrick and Robb of Limbeck were kind of enough to
answer some questions about the meaning of life and the course of
human history and its role in the natural progression of the universe.
This was initially formulated during a discussion with Patrick and
Robb after we missed their set at the Knitting Factory in NYC. They
are on tour from here to eternity so check them out. Unfortunately,
the boys couldn't come up with the answer to the bonus question
(this bonus is going to be asked of all future bands we interview
until someone gets it right - then we'll have a new one).
Did
the band actually travel to all the states and areas where the songs
on Hi, Everything's Great are about?
Of
course we did. I mean, what did you think, we were lying? I mean,
yes, we were there. Thanks.
Will you play North Dakota in the winter? Will it take driving
an armored truck so not get killed in a snow related accident?
Actually,
the Limbeck Band would LOVE to play in North Dakota in the winter.
Hell, we'd play North Dakota any time of the year because we've
never actually played there yet. It sounds like a good place. It
seems funny that they had to split it into two, like a north AND
a south. right? I mean, can't you just have one big state of DAKOTA?
and nope, we don't need an armored truck. Just a nissan sentra.
I mean, our big ol' tour van.
After your breakthrough sophomore release is Limbeck going to
be able to write hotter numbers? Specifically, the latest Hi, Everything's
Great is a fabulous road album. Will there be other 'theme' orientated
records to come? Or just more about traveling?
Well,
we're gonna try to focus less on traveling since everyone got the
idea that we went on some huge road trip and wrote the "hi,
everything's great" record... but, to tell you the truth, I
think it's kind of inevitable. There will definitely be some songs
that were put together on the road, on the
next record. That's how we do. We travel. We play shows. We come
home, then we do it again. But we love it. I think the new jams
are definitely gonna be hot, if not hotter than those before them.
We're actually tryin a new one out on our current tours called "the
TV". I like it. So does Robb.
When Limbeck is finished what will qualify as being satisfied
with your efforts?
Honestly,
we've already had so many incredible experiences, crazy shows, met
amazing people, been in a ton of states, explored the nation and
soon Europe, play songs we love, make records we're proud of, and
just flat out had a blast... so I'm pretty damn satisfied. That
doesn't mean I want to stop doing what we're doin, cuz it's addictive.
And it always seems to get better. I know Matt wants to play on
the Conan O'brien show. I want to record a record in Nashville.
Robb likes to eat candy.
If you could construct a political party what would it be all
about?
The
Limbeck political party would be all about being a little bit nicer
to each other. It seems like a lot of people never want to go out
of their way to be nice to others, help each other out, and be courteous.
Ya know? It doesn't mean you can't care about your own problems
and needs, it just means look out for others, and lend a helping
hand where you can. Oh yeah, and be nice to animals.
Was
there a certain moment growing up when you decided that you just
want to rock for a living?
To
tell you the truth, not really. I think I fell in love with it as
time progressed. at first it was just a hobby of playin guitar..
making noise with friends. then putting songs together, maybe playin
some shows... and now, it's totally surreal, to be in a big van
with a bunch of friends, playin songs and music i love, seein the
country one state at a time, meeting amazing people along the way.
It's crazy when you think about it. I didn't really know what it
was like until I was already there. And it's good I tell you.
On the road, has the band elevated above sleeping on people's
floors? If not, what will that take, if ever?
NO
WAY. Every once and a while we'll elevate ourselves to somebody's
couch, or maybe an open bed, but we're generally happy with the
floors. Even hard wood floors. We've grown to find them very comforting...plus
they can be therapeutic for your back. that's a rumor I've heard
at least. I don't think I see us tryin to stay at hotels anywhere
in the near future. When you're at
somebody's house, you get to know the place you're in a lot better.
Also, you get to know the person you're stayin with a lot better...get
to know about their life, and how things are in their neck of the
woods. When you stay in hotels, it's the same generic two beds,
a nightstand, a lamp, a tv, and a phone set up in EVERY SINGLE ROOM.
Seeing that every night would get way too monotonous. I have to
say, we've met some really really great friends from stayin over
at people's houses. AND, if we stay over, we generally bring a pizza
party with us. You do the math.
What is your drink of choice?
I
like dr. pepper or jack and cokes. That's my personal drink(s) of
choice. Cranberry juice is good too. Robb loves chocolate milk though.
He's pretty hooked on it.
If you could predict what sound in rock is going to explode in
popularity in the next couple of years, what do you think it will
be?
Man,
I don't even wanna know. when a certain "sound in rock"
explodes, it's kinda depressing. when a band gets big on a new-ish
sound, you can bet that 20 other bands will jump on their band wagon
hopin to get a piece of it. That's no fun. I don't like hearing
20 screamo bands playin all over the place. I barely like hearin
one of em to tell you the truth. But if I HAD to give an answer,
how about 80's sounding pop music? That might actually be cool.
Are there side projects in the works for the members of Limbeck?
It's
possible. Nothin right now. We're tryin to stay busy with the ways
of Limbeck right now. And we're all really excited about putting
together some new songs, and touring, and recording. So actually,
no. No side projects. Nevermind.
Bonus: What does George Washington and the square root of three
have in common?
George
Washington had wooden teeth. Me and Robb want wooden teeth. And
thank you for the interview. We enjoyed it times the square root
of three.
