Jane's Addiction
@ Irving Plaza, NYC
6/11/03

I'm happy now...but bear with me

When I was 16 I missed seeing Jane's on the first lollapalooza. Then they broke up…FUCK! For the next few years I bought/traded ever video/cd I could. Knowing that I wouldn't see Janes. My first REAL concert was Porno For Pyros in NYC at Roseland...GREAT first concert. I saw P4P a few more times, Woodstock, NY in 96, and DC in 97...

THEN this whole "relapse" thing started...and I was seeing my favorite band on MTV for Halloween.

I now had my chance...but I abstained.

Yup.

I skipped the Relapse and the Jubilee Tours. I couldn't in good conscience to see Jane's doing what I thought was kinda weak. Flogging the old classics at MSG. Nope. I'll stick with my underground shit the masses don't like. I made the decision to not see Janes, UNLESS they actually started making NEW music.

Then I started hearing about a new album....Maybe a tour? Well The new album "Strays" is coming out July 22nd and everyone knows Lollapalooza is back this summer.

FINALLY I could look forward to seeing my favorite band.

...then they announced a club show in NY.

I got to Irving around 7 am to get tickets and was one of the lucky few to get some. I waited. ( I hear they sold about 400 tickets, the rest was press/media )

Well...

YOU SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO SEE JANES ADDICTION UNLESS ITS AT A 1000 PERSON CLUB!!!!!!!

The show started with Etty ( Perry's insanely hot wife ), and the Lolla girls doing a cabaret dance thing...pretty fun…and OMG WAY too hot. Minutes later Janes took the stage....

The stage at Irving Plaza is LOW...MAYBE 4 feet high? So it's a very intimate show...

I gotta say it, Jane's Addiction is back…and its not hype.

In some type of order they played. (I THINK this is the order)

Jane Says

The band was so into the gig. This was defiantly an industry gig, but fuck you couldn't tell by the crowd. I could barely hear the band on some songs, we were all singing so loud. I was squashed up front. Dave was playing on the riser in the crowd with Etty at some points…and slapping our hands. Perry was leaning over me literally...the crowd was just a massive moving thing....

I believe Perry said something about us being the craziest bunch of people ever.

Was just totally fucking bonkers.

New songs fit in PERFECTLY with the old stuff...and I'm really glad this show showed off how tight the band is, and how AWESOME the new songs are.

Can't say enough good things....

So... I admit it I'm a fan. I WAS skeptical, but not anymore....
