Atom and His Package Interview

Atom of the famous Atom and his Package (and now Armalite) was very generous to do an interview regarding what's going on with him. This is particularly so since it is in "support" of the live CD/DVD of his final show - the now defunct-endeavor of AAHP. Check out our high-fiving review of this release. We are giving Atom a second chance and a hint at the bonus since he is such a nice guy. Once we hear something we will put it up.

First up, how is the family? What is the baby's name? Are you still living in the same spot (as featured on your last record)?

The family is good, and keeps getting larger in size, and weight collectively. The baby's name is Ruby. Yep, we're still living in Philadelphia, sharing a house with two friends. So, the house now has 4 adults, one baby, and two dogs... one who is big and furry and one which is teeny and limping.

Have you found a job with the health benefits you were looking for (thus precipitating the dissolution of the the Package and yourself)?

Err.... sort of... I do have health benefits due to some very generous employers, but it's still a bit tentative, so I'm still looking for a full time, health benefit-giving job.

How serious is your commitment to Armalite?

I enjoy doing it, but with Ruby, and not wanting to be away from home, I have no intentions of touring with the band, but neither does anyone else in the band. Everyone else in the band is in at least one other band, and everyone has full time jobs or school. We're all under the understanding that we love to play and write songs together, but we know that we won't be a touring band. We'll play shows in the northeastern part of the country when we can... and we'll record when we can, but we all know what's up.

Are you finding alot of writing material with all that is going on in the world?

Actually, no. I certainly think and dwell on the current world events frequently, but I've been having a hard time writing lyrics. It seems weird... I have tunes and melodies in my brain, but it just doesn't seem natural recently to write rhyming lyrics... they all feel really forced. Perhaps the Armalite record will be all made up syllables a la Sigur Ros.

Would you participate in something like 'Rock Against Bush'?

I certainly think the current administration is vile and scary, so while it would depend on what I was asked to do in terms of participation, it sounds like something that I would be supportive of.

When you ended the adventure of AAHP did you get alot of mail, etc., from disappointed fans?

I did get a fair number of very touching notes from folks who really liked what I had done. It is excellent to get positive feedback. Some very kind words... very nice.

If I go to Philly in the future, where should I go eat?

There are tons of excellent, reasonably priced places to eat in Philadelphia. Depending on what kind of food you like, and if you have any dietary restrictions, I could give you a fantastic group of recommendations.

If you could change one thing about Philly what would it be?

Physically divided bike lanes from the automobile traffic.

What do you think of the reemergence of black metal, partially due to a bunch of the guys who went to jail for murder being released (e.g., Faust), in the relatively mainstream music conscience?

I didn't know that Mr. Faust was out of jail. I presume he's rehabilitated, and is now a wonderful, kind human being? I like a few black metal records very much, but I'm careful to make sure I don't give any money to folks that have ties to horrible behavior, whether that be fascism, murder or drum trigger usage. Used cd stores rule.

Will there be a reunion tour?

For Atom and his Package? Nope.

Bonus: What does George Washington and the square root of three have in common?

I don't know. Can you give me a hint?
